I have received a personal award as Artist for my work for the book:
The NZ Children's Art House Foundation 2013 Award to The New Zealand Artist Contributing Most to Children. This Award was presented by NZCAHF CEO Shona Hammond-Boys at a ceremony in Opotiki on 11th April, and was received on my behalf by the author, Marnie Anstis.
"I really appreciate this Award, because children were instrumental in choosing the winner. All through the work on the book, my main underlying concern was to make the illustrations a treasure house for children to explore, and so this was a wonderful recognition for me! My sincere thanks go to NZCAHF for this wonderful validation of 12 months' solid work." [Patricia]
Right from the start, this project appealed enormously to me because painting the New Zealand high country and bush has been a passion for years, so working on the book was an extension of my interests in that field.
Here you will find the Paintings, with Artist's Notes, written to explain my reasons for some of the special design features of the works.
I hope you enjoy your journey through these artworks that represent the story of Taketakerau The Millennium Tree - and the story of Aotearoa New Zealand.
